When asked about attractions that aren’t overrated, Reddit users shared world-famous destinations worth the hype.

Pompeii, Italy, World-Famous Destinations Worth the Hype

There is no other place in the world that paints a picture of ancient Roman times like Pompeii. Once home to some of the wealthiest Romans who lived in upscale homes with intricate details and spent time in opulent villas and luxury baths, the city has become a place of both history and tragedy, owing to the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius. This catastrophic event buried the city, along with its residents. The ancient ruins, including baths, homes, and artwork, offer a unique insight into an ancient Roman city’s daily life, which makes Pompeii special and bucket-list-worthy.

Extending from Lake Geneva to the Swiss-Austrian border, the region boasts diverse, picturesque natural wonders, from large glaciers to towering peaks, stunning lakes, and rolling, lush forests. It’s also dotted with fairy-tale villages, like Zermatt, Grindelwald, and Interlaken. Hike or mountain bike the picturesque trails in the summer and enjoy skiing and snowboarding in the winter.
